The Crestwood Police Department Investigations Unit is a dedicated group. The function of this unit is to investigate crimes, follow-up on criminal cases, collect evidence at crime scenes, and assist in the tactical operations of the Police Department.
The investigators work in a plain clothes capacity and have been highly successful in solving crimes after they have been committed. As a matter of fact, in 2003, the Crestwood Police Department ranked second out of 69 South Suburban Communities in solving crimes, once they had been committed.
Four of the Investigators have been chosen as recipients of the Cook County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Merit Award. The investigators work on a variety of cases, ranging from homicides to simple thefts.
The Police Department is also a member of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Two of our own investigators serve on the Task Force as well. The Task Force is utilized when a "Major Crime" occurs in town. The task force supplements our own detectives and has a success rate of more than 98 percent!
